Ray Rice just received a big pay day.
The former Baltimore Ravens running back settled a wrongful termination suit in January that was initiated by the National Football League Players Association.
Rice was seeking $ 3.259 million, which was his base salary. Although the amount that Rice received as undisclosed, according to the Baltimore Sun’s Aaron Wilson, Rice was awarded $1.588 million in lost wages by his former team.
Rice was cut by the Baltimore Ravens in September after TMZ Sports released a video showing Rice and his then-fiancée, Janay Palmer entering an Atlantic City, NJ casino elevator. While occupying the elevator, Rice punches Palmer. Palmer lunges after Rice, and then Rice hits her again and she falls to the floor. Rice then drags his unconscious fiancée out of the elevator.
Hours after the video surfaced, the Ravens cut Rice, and the NFL suspended the Pro-Bowl runningback indefinitely. Rice, 27, had three years and $10 million remaining on the five-year, $35-million contract he signed with Baltimore in 2012.
Although the former Ravens running back put his legal troubles and NFL suspension behind him, NOLA.com’s Terrance Harris reported a couple of weeks ago that there’s zero interest for the one-time star back’s services on the NFL free-agency market.
