an in-depth tell-all reveals the illegal hustles of one of “New York’s Boldest” in one of the most notorious jails in the world

Former NYC corrections officer Gary Heyward, who was convicted in 2006 of drug and contraband smuggling in 2006, pulls no punches in his newly released book, admitting,

“I had orders for coke, liquor, cell phones, and cooch.”

Heyward served two years for his crimes committed as a CO on Riker’s Island, however, while incarcerated, the former Marine penned his exploits that landed him behind bars in the first place.

NYC Department Of Corrections officials have publicly condemned the book, claiming that Heyward’s claims are exaggerated and do nothing but further destroy the reputation of COs widely known for engaging in illegal activities inside and outside of prison walls.

The 29 year old Harlem veteran served in Desert Storm before being hired by the Department of Corrections in 1996. He admits to being one of the original smugglers of tobacco into Riker’s Island after smoking was banned by Mayor Bloomberg. Heyward reveals that he would strap cartons of cigarettes to his person and wear his uniform to check in to avoid a search. The tobacco was given to inmates for distribution.

He offered inmates “burn out” cell phones for $500, in which he would lock them in their cells and tell them to “rock out” until they ran out of minutes.

One of the inmates’ family members with whom Heyward had done business with became an informant and turned Heyward in. He was first transferred and placed on modified duty before he was eventually arrested for his crimes.

After serving upward of 20 months, Heyward is working for the city again and even manage to roll his pension over from his work as a “corruption officer”.
