The fifth season of HBO’s Emmy and Golden Globe-winning Game Of Thrones premiered in San Francisco at War Memorial Opera House.
100 extremely fortunate fans were chosen through social media to attend the day’s events including both the red carpet as well as the screening. Prior to the screening was a star-studded red carpet with the majority of the cast making an appearance. Creator/Executive Producer David Benioff and D.B Weiss were joined by, Carolyn Strauss, George R.R. Martin, Bernadette Caufield, Frank Doelger, Ramin Djawadi, and HBO CEO Richard Plepler. Cast in attendance included Alfie Allen, Ian Beattie, Dean-Charles Chapman, Dean-Charles Chapman, Gwendoline Christie, Emilia Clarke, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Liam Cunningham, Peter Dinklage, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jerome Flynn, Aidan Gillen, Kit Harington, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Michiel Huisman, Finn Jones, Michael McElhatton, Hannah Murray, Iwan Rheon, Eugene Simon, Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams. Lena Headey was the lone surprise absence.
HBO’s biggest program premiered in San Francisco this year, a substantial change from previously used locations such as London and New York City. Peter Dinklage was among many to comment on his love for the city itself. Following the screening, an after party was thrown for both the cast as well as all of the fans.
Season 4 left viewers with a plethora of questions as the previous season’s finale saw Tyrion Lannister murder his father as well as his former lover Shae only to escape with Varys. Tyrion’s brother Jaime, having helped his brother escape, will certainly have to confront their sister Cersei this season. Arya traveling to Bravos is another major storyline fans have been anxiously waiting to see progress. Only one thing is certain as the new season is upon us, winter is coming.
Game of Thrones returns on April 12.
