A24 has acquired U.S. distribution rights to Asif Kapadia’s highly anticipated Amy Winehouse documentary Amy.

The film is scheduled to come out this summer around the anniversary of her death. In the teaser, we see rare footage of a young Amy Winehouse and some very early interviews with the singer. She said that she never thought she would be a famous singer. She said she wouldn’t write a song unless it was very personal.

“Around two years ago, we decided to make a movie about her, her career and her life, and we worked with a team who had made a documentary feature called Senna, which was an amazing film. Since then, they’ve created an absolutely spectacular movie. It’s about her life. It’s a very complicated and tender movie. It tackles lots of things about family, media, fame, addiction, but most importantly, it captures the very heart of what she was about, which is an amazing person and a true musical genius,” David Joseph, the Chairman and Chief Executive of Universal Music UK & Ireland said.
