The latest play at the Lynn Redgrave Theater in Noho is called “My Name is Rachel Corrie.”It’s a political play based on the diaries and emails of Rachel Corrie and edited by Alan Rickman. Originally premiering in London in 2005, the play traces an American woman’s journey from her childhood to her days at Evergreen College to her experiences in Palestine. She was ultimately killed by an Israeli armed tank while she was attempting to block them from tearing down the Palestinian houses. The play is a one woman show. The current production sets the show in her bedroom, and has her tell her story through memories. To depict the scenes in Palestine, the theater projects images onto an intricate sculpture behind her. Charlotte Hemmings portrays Corrie as Jonathan Kane directs.  He shared, “I am so excited to bring this amazing story of a young woman that paid the ultimate price for literally standing up for what she believed in. This play seems even more timely now as the divides in our society continue to plague us. “ Rachel Corrie currently has a limited run until April 12. On April 10, Rachel Corrie’s birthday, there will be a benefit performance for the Rachel Corrie Foundation for Peace and Justice, the show will be followed by a Q & A with the family of Rachel Corrie.
