Dozens of protesters were arrested in last night’s protest on the historic NYC bridge against overt police aggression

After a gathering in Union Square Tuesday night, 42 demonstrators were arrested for various charges during and after a protest that ended up on the Brooklyn Bridge.

15 people were detained in Manhattan and 27 were later taken into custody on the Brooklyn side of the Brooklyn Bridge with various charges such as obstruction of justice, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and obstruction of governmental administration.

Three officers were hurt in the melee, including one off-duty officer who was punched and assaulted after he identified himself as a police officer, receiving bruises to his face and arms. That officer was taken and treated at Beekman Hospital where he was released.

Organizers of the group known as “National Actions to Stop Murder By Police” said more than 90 unarmed people have been killed by police since the start of 2015.
