Friday Variety honored Kim Kardashian West, Lena Dunham, Glenn Close, Whoopi Goldberg and Rachel Weisz, for their respective philanthropic contributions, at the 2015 Variety Power of Women New York Luncheon Presented by Lifetime.
Glenn Close was recognized for her work with Bring Change2Mind. Lena Dunham was honored for her work with Girls Educational & Mentoring Services – GEMS. Whoopi Goldberg works with Figure Skating in Harlem. Rachel Weisz works with The Opportunity Network and Kim Kardashian West has done great work with the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Avengers: Age of Ultron actress Cobie Smulders received the Samsung Galaxy Edge Award for her work with Oceana.
Mattel honored an inspiring group of Sheroes, women and girls who have fought to not take no for an answer and have soared over obstacles and stereotypes in favor of believing that they can and will be anything! The Barbie Sheroes were Eva Chen (Editor in Chief, Lucky), Kristin Chenoweth, director Ava DuVernay, Sydney Keiser (Founder of Fashion by Mayhem), Emmy Rossum (“Shameless”), country icon Tricia Yearwood.
The intimate luncheon was hosted by Shiri Appleby and Constance Zimmer, stars of Lifetime’s “UnREAL”. Others in attendance included Rosie Perez, Jennifer Morrison, Joe Zee and Dascha Polanco.
