What is “assortative mating”? It is a theory that basically says “Opposites shouldn’t attract.” The theory in short is- an educated black woman should marry an educated black man. And if they don’t, they won’t have financial security because they are “marrying down.” Just 49 percent of Black women marry a well-educated spouse. Compare this to 89 percent of White women. A study suggests that an educated black woman needs to marry outside of their race in order to marry a man that has the same educational background. In my opinion, this is more propaganda and CRAP that has been thrown out there in the name of “science” to devalue black men and increase racial disparity.
The theory also states that, “Families with two college graduates will have more money to invest in their children and may be able to afford private K-12 schools or homes in top-notch school districts. They are also more likely to have jobs offering greater flexibility, allowing them to better balance work and family life.” So basically you will have smarter more advantaged children that are more likely to be productive citizens. This is commonsense and didn’t need a scientific theory to explain. However, this is not the only way this can be achieved. You don’t have to marry outside of your race to have financial security and smart kids.
Let me just say this as an educated black woman- I was taught a long time ago to “Look Up” when looking for a man. A lesson I learned quick and practiced 16 years ago. It takes two “conscious” parents to raise well-adjusted and upwardly mobile children. Education does not make you conscious. Also, a college degree does NOT dictate the success or financial stability of a man (or woman.) I have two degrees and I married a man without one, who is much smarter than I. And “WE” have provided extremely well for our family and those around us. What’s wrong with an educated woman teaming up with her street-smart, self-educated man and creating an empire. Nothing! I’ll take a black man with ambition, motivation and intellect over a man with a college degree any day. I know a lot of HIGHLY educated men of all races who are bumbs!
