Ink addict and R&B superstar Rihanna, 25, added to her collection of eccentric tattoos this past Tuesday at a lavish pad in the Dominican Republic.
She’s in the DR for her “Diamonds World Tour” and flew out her celebrity tat-man Bang Bang and tat-woman Cally Jo of Bang Bang NYC Tattoos to cover up and elaborate on the three week old Maori Tattoo on her right hand.
The original tattoo was painfully chiseled and took a great deal of patience and work.
After 5 hours of designing and a excited tweet from @badgalriri reading, “This kinda party tonight!! @bangbangnyc @callyjoart #ink,” the celebrity and artists went through a grueling 11 hour session which included a nap break for Rihanna.
The tattoo artist explains the length of the work saying, “This one had elements to it that were very unique, covering up pieces of it, combining pieces of it, making up new pieces.”
He continued to say, “Her hand is not something you can put away…We went over and over.”
Even though he admitted that the tattoo was one of the hardest he did for Rihanna, according to Bang Bang, Rihanna loves the henna-inspired tattoo.
“Ri flipped out!” he states. “Absolutely loved it, loved it! It’s a hard thing when you get a tattoo and not absolutely love it. It’s uncomfortable to have something on your hand, especially when it’s in such a visible spot and she’s such a visible person.”
As long as Rihanna likes it, we guess our confusion doesn’t matter, right?
