Of course last night’s episode of Scandal was crazy. Don’t worry, we’re not going to spoil for all of you who missed it! However, Olivia Pope or Kerry Washington, dropped mouths in the TV world and the real world with her sleek black and white dress which she wore to the White House Correspondents Dinner.
Behind the cameras, head costume designer of the critically acclaimed ABC series, Lyn Paolo went through a tentative search for the dress. She’d been looking for the perfect piece for the scene and this summer she found it in Neiman Marcus.
The dress is designed by New York based designer Rubin Singer, 35, who like everybody else, is also a Sandal aficionado. He says in an interview with the NY Post, “I’m a huge fan of the show. I think it’s one of the coolest shows — especially for fashion — on television.”
Singer describes the piece as “.. an evening look that fits perfectly with her character because it’s all about the precision and effortlessness that is throughout all of her wardrobe.”
After her lucky find, Paolo came to Singer’s studio and spoke excited business with him.
Singer says, “Lyn had seen the dress at Neiman’s, and she fell in love with it. It was really wonderful how it came about — it was very organic.”
Moreover, Olivia Pope herself loves the dress. Singer says “Lyn came into my studio just to meet me and say how excited she was about the gown and how Kerry was super excited about it because they’d been looking for it for awhile.”
What’s even better is the fact that the dress required no alterations and it fit Washington perfectly.
In the past year, Singer has come up significantly in the designing world. He was the man behind Beyoncé’s famous 2012 Superbowl performance fit. No body forgot about that!
He has much to look forward to after commencing a relationship with Scandal and Kerry Washington who plans to work with him in the future.
