A$AP brings MTV on the set for his new video “Phoenix”
A$AP Rocky is in the process of shooting visuals for his latest single, “Phoenix”. During a break from the filming, MTV was able to sit down with the star about the meaning of the song and the forthcoming visuals.
“The tale of the Phoenix is that it dies and its reborn from its ashes. So metaphorically we wanted to manifest it into my video,” he says. The Phoenix and reincarnation are reoccurring themes on the album, even being mentioned in the album’s title and title track: Long. Live. A$AP.
One of the more epic songs on the album, Rocky is trying to translate that feeling visually. The video stars Michael K. Williams and model Joan Smalls as a couple in the midst of an intense argument, that seems to end with a gun being pulled. “This is more of a serious number, you know, we wanted to make it scary.”
