kp-slate-01-lg-novid_v358005919_Less than a year since the last Kindle Paperwhite release, Amazon has already unveiled an updated model, the Paperwhite 2.0.

The Paperwhite 2.0 will be the sixth generation model in the Kindle series. Compared to the previous version the 2.0 sports a faster processor, a new display technology which offers higher contrast, an improved lighting system and advanced touch technology. Additionally the new Kindle features Good Reads integration, FreeTime-a tracker and reward system that encourages kids to read-and a new Page Flip feature. With the new Page Flip users will be able to skim page-by-page, scan by chapter, or even skip to the end of a book without losing your place.

The new Kindle was just one part of Amazon’s press release. This week the online retailer will also be introducing Kindle Matchbook. The new service allows customers to bundle ebook versions of physical book purchases for a reduced price.

Amazon is currently taking per-orders on the new Kindle Paperwhite. The company is currently offering a special $20 discount on pre-orders off the retail price of $139. According to Amazon the device will start shipping on September 30 so customers can expect to receive the new Kindle in about a month. The WiFi+3G version priced is not available for pre-order currently but will go on sale November 5.
