French artist David Redon has a love for pop culture and the icons who represent it. The artist takes today’s pop culture favorites and remixed them with vintage american ads and wartime propaganda. The stars are placed onto bright-colored paper billboards, symbolic of american history and ads. The pics are digitally retouched and added to the hand-painted vintage pictures.
Redon takes the likes of Kanye West, who is paired on to the familiar “We Can Do It” poster, which was created by artist J. Howard Miller in 1943, created to inspire and boost female morale in the workplace. Kanye replaces “Rosie the Riveter’”says “Stronger,” a song title from the rapper which in some ways relates to the original print image.
Through music, artists like Kanye West, Beyonce, OutKast and Michael Jackson have grown to become huge pop sensations of American pop culture were also recreated in Redon’s pieces. Take a look below.
