STALL-TIGHT-private

On Saturday, world renowned street artist, Banksy, decided to hold an impromptu art sale in Central Park as part of his month-long residency in New York City. Before you get all “Why didn’t anybody tell me?!?!,” it’s important to note, that was the whole point.

As part of an experiment, Banksy made available over a dozen of his paintings valued well over $1 million, for a measly $60 a pop, without revealing his identity. By the end of the day, only three people purchased his pieces, including a woman who managed to haggle the price down by 50 percent. When it was time to close up shop, Banksy’s grand total rounded out to a modest $420 in sales, which begs the question, is it Banksy’s art everyone is obsessed with or simply the hype around it?

On his website, Banksy insists this was simply a “one-off” stunt and has no plans to repeat it. That won’t stop us from keeping our eyes open for more of his work. Check out the footage of his pop-up art sale below.
