Brooklyn’s stellar arena tops ticket sales across the U.S.

Opening with a string of concerts by then partial Nets owner Jay Z, Brooklyn’s Barclays Center became New York’s hottest attraction. Receiving great reviews from all corners of the world, it become a venue you have to book if you are an A-list performer. Home to the Brooklyn Nets, the arena has become a main attraction for concerts and family shows, leading all venues in ticket sales for the first half of 2013.

The arena clearly rivals Madison Square Garden, although it does not possess the lore of The Garden nor is it rich in history, it is evident that people want to be there. The Barclays Center sold a whopping $46.9 million in tickets in 6 months and falls at number two worldwide, second to England’s O2 Arena. According to a list by Pollstar, Madison Square Garden moved 194,000 units far behind Barclay’s 657,000. Before the year ends it is possibility that the arena could break the million mark.

Its modernity certainly helps attract promoters and people alike. Madison Square Garden is under the knife, renovations are being made to boost its appeal after many years of maintaining the original look and design. Barclays Center will host the VMA’s, MTV’s most famous award show in August, adding another sold event that will catapult ticket sales by the end of this summer.
