A cat in Virginia was recently saved by the heroic quick thinking of Batman and Captain America — or more like two random guys who enjoy wearing Batman and Captain America outfits outside of Halloween — on Saturday.

John Buckland (Batman) and Troy Marcum (Captain America) were dressed as super heroes for a children and veteran’s event at American Legion Post, when a few attendees noticed smoke. Buckland, a former firefighter, realized it was coming from a home nearby and immediately took action.

“I said [to Marcum] ‘Captain, I need you to find the biggest rock you can find, and throw it through that window right there to let some of this smoke out of that front room,’” Buckland said.

After busting out the windows of the house, the two ran into the home searching for anyone they could save. However, instead of the homeowners (who were away at the time) they found something furry, the owners cat.

“I don’t care what it is. I don’t care if it’s a Chia pet. It’s coming out,” Buckland said. “So I grab it, run out the door with it.”

Next thing you know, Batman is giving mouth to mouth to a cat. The cat eventually came to and “freaked out,” but nonetheless was still alive.

E.M.S. on the scene asked Buckland to take his mask off so they could give him some oxygen, but not before Buckland threatened gathered the kids who were nearby and made them swear they wouldn’t tell anyone “who Batman really is.”
