…and conservatives everywhere raised the roof.
Too frequently we’re reminded that the two halves of our country’s political system are helpless to understand each other in the media. It’s not funny anymore, for the most part. That being said, Bill O’Reilly referred to Kanye and Jay Z as “gangsta rappers” last week, and it was really funny. In his exact words:
“You have to attack the fundamental disease if you want to cure it. Now, I submit to you that you are going to have to get people like Jay Z, Kanye West, all of these ‘gangsta rappers’ to knock it off. That’s number one!”
If you’re not inclined to watch the whole video, we understand. O’Reilly invited White House advisor Valerie Jarrett onto his show to discuss Obama’s “My Brother’s Keeper” initiative. The president’s campaign is designed to give young men of color better opportunities. O’Reilly thinks it’d be a great idea if only gangstas like Kanye and Jay Z weren’t setting a bad example.
“You’ve got to get where they live! They idolize these guys with the hats on backwards and the terrible rock- rap lyrics and the drugs and all of that. You’ve got to get to these guys! And I think President Obama can do it,” continued O’Reilly, effectively waging war on the culture of 1995.
Sock it to ‘em, Bill. While we’re at it, let’s go after the guys in Gucci bucket hats and upside-down visors. If you want to espouse social change, you have to prove you’ve heard a single song from the culture you’re denouncing.
And if you’re going to attack backwards hats, you have to prove you know what year it is first.
