Almost 30 years later, Katheryn Deprill is reunited with her birth mother after being abandoned in a Pennsylvania Burger King as a newborn.
Less than a month after Katheryn Deprill, 27, posted a photo of herself on Facebook that read:
“Looking for my birth mother. She gave birth to me September 15, 1986. She abandoned me in the Burger King bathroom only hours old, Allentown, PA. Please help me find her by sharing my post. Maybe she will see this. Thank you,”
Deprill and her mother were reunited for the very first time.
Oddly enough, the Deprill who once was known as the “Burger King Baby,” felt nothing but joy when she met her biological mother for the first time. The photo was shared more than 30,000 times on Facebook and Deprill’s story soon caught the attention of many media outlets. The search soon brought forward the woman who abandoned her. The woman reached out to attorney John Waldron, who arranged for the two to meet.
Deprill declined to name her mother after the two met for hours but said they would meet again and plan to have a relationship. Waldron spoke with WFMZ-TV and told them that the woman who gave birth to Deprill was raped as a teenager while traveling abroad and became pregnant. The then teenager, hid the pregnancy from her parents and decided she couldn’t take her baby to the hospital.
“She was only 17-years-old,” Deprill told the station. “She was extremely upset that she had to leave me and it wasn’t what she wanted, but she felt she had no other means… she left me somewhere she knew I’d be found.”
