Along with Super Bowl XLVIII, the 2014 Winter Olympics is expected to be one of the biggest sporting events of the year. Ironically enough, both events are scheduled to take place next month. And not to mention, the 2014 NBA All-Star Weekend has also found itself a slot on the February calendar. Busy much? Well whatever it is, it can wait. You don’t want to miss this.
Officially the XXII Olympic Winter Games, this year’s Winter Olympics will take place in Sochi, Russia. It’s the first Olympics in the Russian Federation since the breakup of the USSR and in preparation for the games, the European nation built new indoor and outdoor venues to host the events. The massive construction project has reached a total spending of more than $50 billion, an amount that trumps the combined cost of all previous 21 Olympic Winter Games. This makes the 2014 Winter Olympics the most expensive Olympics in history. But Russia isn’t the only country making an investment.
As the event draws near, the British Broadcasting Corporation also tapped its resources to produce an official trailer promoting its coverage of the games. The trailer features an incredible mountainous backdrop and a voice-over by British actor Charles Dance, known for his role as Tywin Lannister on HBO’s Game of Thrones. Check out the trailer here.
