Cheerios is a brand of whole grain oats cereal that started in 1941. They are owned by General Mills, a massive cereal brand with billions in revenue earned annually.
But despite being a national brand full of corporate posturing and handwringing, Cheerios made itself part of the national conversation by doing something extraordinary. They featured a biracial family in their latest commercial, ‘Just Checking.’
Mind you, they never actually show the parental actors interacting as a family. And the only connection between the interracial couple is their biracial daughter. But that hasn’t stopped the racist sounding board from running their damn fool mouths.
Cheerios received racist comments all over their Facebook page. The backlash for the YouTube video was so vitriolic they had to disable comments for the video…but not the video itself. Cheerios has stood by the commercial, saying that they represent all families with their brand.
Kenji America, however, has decided to make a more aggressive statement towards those that lash out against the Cheerios commercial. And while they were at it, they took it one step further.
