Doc heads to Los Angeles, Garnett to stay put
The Clippers and Celtics have been in the midst of a drawn out trade over coach Doc Rivers. Lucky for us though the trade has been made so we no longer have to listen to all the speculations. The Clippers will sign River to a three-year $21 million contract while sending their 2015 1st-round draft pick to the Celtics.
This trade works out for both teams as the Clippers now get a coach who can help their ‘win now’ team. The Celtics on the other hand get a first-round draft pick which will help in the rebuilding process that is focused around Rajon Rondo and Jeff Green.
Kevin Garnett who was rumored to be joining Doc Rivers in Los Angeles will in fact be staying put in Boston for the time being. According to league rules a trade of coach can only involve the coach, no players can be included. Why not do a separate trade you ask? Well the league is counting any separate trade for Garnett to the Clippers as part of the Rivers deal. The league is prepared to block any trade that involves Garnett to the Clippers.
