The newly anointed best fans in the world all came together for one night in Brooklyn as “Game of Thrones” premiered its season four opener, “Two Swords,” in a special pre-screening for diehard fans at the Barclays Center.
It was a packed house as a plethora of exhibits were set up all over the arena to give out free t-shirts and also fans had an opportunity to sit on the famed Iron Throne from the show. About three different replicas of the chair were set up and fans also were able to take photos sitting on the throne.
The entire show itself was a smorgasbord of spectacles as Common himself started things off by coming off the Iron Throne to perform “The Ladder” off the “Catch the Throne” mixtape made for the show. He continued by rapping parts of “Get Em High” and then transitioning into some brand new “Game of Thrones” styled verses. After Common electrified the Brooklyn crowd, “Game of Thrones” cast member Kristian Nairn (Hodor on the show) played host while series creator and executive producer George R.R. Martin as well as cast members Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), Sibel Kekilli (Shae) and John Bradely (Samwell Tarly) came out for a Q and A session.
To cap off the night of course was the premiere episode itself. Things started off with a brief recap of the tumultuous season 3 as viewers got to see skilled swordsman Tywin Lannister fitted into a makeshift metal fist, while also dealing with the quandaries of the kingdom. Every character was given sufficient screen time as the episode provided the foundation for where a lot of them will be heading in the upcoming season.
The new season looks to bring lots of action and surprises as fans at the Barclays Center were filled with euphoric fervor in anticipation of what’s to come next. The first episode premieres April 6 on HBO.
