Two years after beginning his four year sentence, Conrad Murray has been freed from jail. He gained noteriety in 2009, when he his most famous patient, Michael Jackson, passed away after receiving a fatal dosage of anesthetic propofal as a sleep aid. Pop singer and cultural icon, his death sparked a massive outcry for any clue regarding his mysterious death. All signs eventually pointed back to Dr. Murray and the ample amount of dangerous drugs he prescribed the star around the time of his death.
In 2011, he was convicted in connection to Jackson’s death and given four years behind bars. Thanks to a change in California law, his incarceration time was able to be cut down in half. While free, Murray will find that the outside world has become a crueler place for him as well. He has already had his license to practice law suspended or revoked in three states. Being tied to one of the most beloved superstars of the past forty years won’t make his life any easier. The 60 year old will be dodging questions and receiving a lot of angry mail for the rest of his life.
While in prison, his stay was not the stuff of Martha Stewart fame. Instead, his lawyer stated that he did not receive any special treatment, and may have had less privileges due to the high profile nature of the crime. Its no surprise the he “is very much looking forward to his release and getting on with his life. However, the fact of his incarceration is increasingly difficult for him”, his attorney Valerie Wass stated early this year.
Now his release date is upon us, but who knows what will happen. It was unfortunate circumstance all around that much is clear. Dr. Murray is free, but the trial will be going on for the rest of his life.
