Danny Brown is one of the more opened minded hip-hop artists in the game right now. From rhyming over European EDM-0inspired beats that other emcees shy away from, to collaborating with acts that rarely find their way into rap fans newsfeeds, like Insane Clown Posse or Purity Ring, he has consistently shown his willingness to go against the grain and fully embrace the oddity of his character. So, it would not be a surprise to see him on a track with Miley Cyrus, the current pop badgirl Queen–who has already garnered the support and praise of a slew of rappers.
Well, guess again.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Brown aired out some of his concerns and distaste about the whole Miley situation. Of course, he did it in a way that was uniquely his, part humorous and part hard truth. When he was asked about Miley Cyrus stating that her transformation was brought on by a summer she spent in his hometown of Detroit, he responded by saying:
I think she just trying to beat the case and say some shit. Ain’t no way she could . . . trying to be dead or gangbang or some shit. She ain’t live no Detroit experience. We can throw that out the window. I think she just trying to be cool. Personally, the reason that I don’t like it is there’s a lot of little girls that saw and looked up to Miley Cyrus as a little kid. Now they grown and they seeing what she doing. Somebody else can do that; you can be the one person who don’t do that. What’s your point?…
His criticism did not stop there. Afterwards, he was asked about the numerous hip hop cosigns she has been getting. Brown said that the reason boiled down to one factor, making money to eat:
I think anybody doing that just trying to eat. Ain’t no n***a worried about their own music worried about her. Kendrick Lamar is not trying to do no song with Miley Cyrus. It’s just like this, man. It’s like the little white girl in the hood that might get you a plug on some pills or some shit. You gonna be nice to her to get your plug or whatever you need to get. They trying to eat.
The rest of the interview was equally enlightening and he may have taken another subliminal shot at his fellow D-town emcee, Big Sean. His Miley criticisms are not all together new or unique, but rarely has anyone state these thoughts out loud so candidly. Clearly, Cyrus has been having a bad week, as this is the second big name artist to call her out for her recent behavior. You can check out the rest of the interview here.
