Success seems to always happen when Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine come together.
For their latest business venture, the two music moguls donated $70 Million to the University of Southern California. The donated funds will go towards building an academic program at the university that will aid in the development of business, music and tech savvy individuals. The degree attained will blend business, marketing, product development, design and liberal arts.
The idea to donate came about after the two struggled to find qualified candidates to work for them.Though they never attended college, they’ve experienced success in several different business ventures. Not only are they responsible for discovering multiple acts like Lady Gaga, Eminem and 50 Cent but they are also the brains behind the innovative Beats By Dre brand.
While the details for U.S.C. Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation are still being worked out, the first class of 25 students is set to enter in the fall of 2014. According to the official NYT article, not only will these students be chosen partly on their “original thought” but seniors will be require to come up with a business prototype.
“I feel like this is the biggest, most exciting and probably the most important thing that I’ve done in my career,” Dr. Dre said to the NYT.
