Cultural critic Michael Eric Dyson interviews the iconic entertainer at the prestigious University
This past weekend, Dr. Michael Eric Dyson sat down in a candid conversation in a crowded Gaston Hall in Georgetown University in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of Nas’ classic Illmatic LP. The interview was moderated by Zulu member Dr. James Petersen, with Dr. Dyson and Esco discussing the depth of the living legend’s debut LP. The reveled analyst of Black culture in America even spit some of Nas’ bars to the delight of the packed auditorium. The trio even expounded upon the sentiment that Hip Hop belongs to “the universe, not the university”, now that this culture has expanded into a multi-billion dollar industry. Please check out the clip above with the introduction from 9th Wonder.
