5th time’s a charm?
Lil’ Wayne had a rough 2013. By most artist’s measures, selling over 200,000 copies of your album (I Am Not A Human Being II), and achieving two top 40 singles off said project would usually result in a meeting with the label to request a heightened budget, but for the 31 year old rapper 3 years removed from nearly going platinum in a week, again, that doesn’t cut it.
Weezy tweeted about feeling the need to do more in 2014, after being left off every major award show’s nomination/performance list, and just 6 weeks into the new year, Wayne has made his presence felt. Last night, during a private show at The House Of Blues in New Orleans during the NBA’s All-Star Weekend festivities, Drake made the impromptu announcement that Wayne’s 11th solo LP, Tha Carter V, would be released on May 5th.
There’s no new music out, and other than the remix to YG’s top 20 single, “My N***a”, Wayne hasn’t been in the mainstream spotlight, but his 2013 was rather underrated, and there may be light at the end of the tunnel this year for the YMCMB CEO.
