The competition heats up at this year’s BET Awards.

Over the last year, hip-hop has been on fire. We’ve seen 2 Chainz roll out single after single (“No Lie” ft. Drake, “I’m different”), we’ve witness the breakout success of Kendrick Lamar with the release of Good Kid M.A.A.D. City and we all watched Drake transition from his Take Care days into a whole new sound. The successes of these three artists are celebrated in their nods this year at the BET Awards. Drake has 12 nominations while 2 Chainz and Kendrick Lamar are tied at 8. Jay-Z, A$AP Rocky, Justin Timberlake and Miguel come in with 4 each.

The announcement was made in L.A. at the Nokia Theater earlier today. Not only is the competition between these artists pretty intense, but the “Best Collaboration” “Best Male Hip-Hop Artists” and “Best New Artists” categories heat things up even more.
