Colorado permits food stamp card machines in pot shops
In a shocking revelation during a growing national debate about marijuana legalization, Colorado is allowing shops that peddle medical and recreational marijuana to have EBT-ready ATM machines, allowing welfare recipients to get cash.
Colorado Senator Vicki Marble and her Republican supporters wanted to close that loophole, but we’re unsuccessful. Marble said that this will allow the state’s new weed industry to come under federal scrutiny, since improper use of welfare funds will be available for recreational pot. Lawmakers have wanted to add strip clubs and pot shops to the list of establishments that doesn’t allow EBT cash withdrawals which already include gun stores, liquor stores, and casinos.
Democrats say that some neighborhoods have few ATMs and it’s the duty of legislature to make sure that these neighborhoods have fair ATM accessibility before addressing this matter.
