Slim Shady Is Back In Full Effect For November 5th Release
The Hip-Hop community is waiting with baited breath for the release of Eminem‘s upcoming 8th studio LP, The Marshall Mathers LP 2, and Slim recently spoke with Rolling Stone on the mechanisms of his latest full length release, the pressure of its namesake, and being able to step in the studio with Rick Rubin.
Em had high praise for Rubin and his abilities, stating, “Getting with him was like, ‘Holy shit!’ As many genres of music that he is able to fuck with, he’s like Yoda. I couldn’t do it. You sit me there with a rock group, I don’t know the first fucking thing about banging on the drums.”
And while the Detroit rapper admitted to scrapping a number of songs during the album’s process, he assured that it was all in an effort to make the best record possible. ”Calling it The Marshall Mathers LP 2, obviously I knew that there might be certain expectations,” he remarked. “I wouldn’t want to call it that just for the sake of calling it that. I had to make sure that I had the right songs – and just when you think you got it, you listen and you’re like, ‘Fuck, man! I feel like it needs this or that,’ to paint the whole picture.”
MMLP 2 is yet another bright spot in a stellar year for hip-hop recordings, with 2013 boasting releases from Drake, Jay Z, Kanye West, J. Cole and Pusha T, among others. Read the full Rolling Stone piece here and be sure to check out The Marshall Mathers LP 2 when it hits stores early next month.
