The Source recently spoke with Girl Talk about his forthcoming Broken Ankles collaborative EP with Freeway.
A little over a month ago, the Pittsburg-bred mash-up maestro Gregg Gillis – also known as Girl Talk – and Philadelphia rapper Freeway announced the impending release of their Broken Ankles collaborative EP. The duo officially broke the news at a last minute show at the Brooklyn Bowl, where they also debuted a cut from the project entitled “Tolerated.”
The Source recently caught up with Mr. Gillis to learn a little more about his entirely sample-based craft and the criticisms he’s encountered for it, his love for hip hop, and his experience collaborating one-one-one with an artist on a mixtape for the first time.
From our dialogue, we learned that the “Pennsylvania Dream Team” has been working exceptionally hard on Broken Ankles, a product which Gillis anticipates to resonate as a cohesive Freeway mixtape and a fluid Girl Talk album in one.
The official release of the EP is still to be determined, and given Gregg’s love for putting on live shows, he told us that him and Freeway will definitely be taking stages in tandem once they do liberate the project.
