Some people were born to make music. And some people were born to make change with their music. Inglewood artist Shawn Chrystopher belongs to the latter group. From the second I heard “No Snitchin’” off of his first mixtape, The Audition, I had a strong feeling that the West Coaster had no intentions of going unnoticed. Then I caught wind of “Catch Me If You Can” off of You, And Only You, and I was convinced I had to follow his moves closely. Since being that dude in the glasses who could produce and rap, Shawn made it clear that he has developed his own unique sound of switching between speaker slapping radio hits, a la Swizz Beatz or the Neptunes, and more introspective slow jams, a la The Fugees.
His work speaks for itself, earning him the attention of big name brands like LRG and Microsoft’s Xbox, as well as artists such as Timbaland. Timbaland has since worked closely with Shawn, executively producing his last project, The Lovestory LP. After wrapping up a concert in New York with Phil Ade (watch out for that interview later this week), Shawn Chrystopher met up with us for a look at his path to recognition and what is on the horizon for him. Hit the jump for the latest video he created for his inner circle, “One Of My Homies,” off of The Lovestory LP and then the interview after that. It’s Shawn Chrys, b*tch!
