jessica white and shontelleIn addition to working on her third studio album, singer/songwriter Shontelle has been busy in the studio writing for other artists.

We caught up with Shontelle yesterday at Supermodel Jessica White’s Fourth Annual Angel Wings Foundation event at Georgica Restaurant in the Hamptons. Shontelle was on the host committee for the event. Shontelle told TheSource.com exclusively that she has been writing for CeeLo Green’s new album, Kelly Clarkson’s new album and her Christmas album and working on tracks for DJ Khaled, Meek Mill and more. Check out our interview below:

Q: What is it like working with CeeLo Green?

Shontelle: Cee Lo is a character, man. The challenge for us working on his new project is that he doesn’t want us to give him anything that’s “CeeLo”.  He’s this kind of chameleon that keeps morphing you know what I mean? He want us to shock him, so it’s probably the most challenging of any other project because it’s so easy to know where to go with CeeLo, but he’s like, “No don’t do that.” I think he wants to challenge himself too, right now.

Q: And what’s it like being in the studio with CeeLo, do you guys have fun?

Shontelle: Yeah, I mean I haven’t gotten to spend a long time in the studio with him yet because it’s at the point were we’re all just writing and then he’ll pop in, check on things and then give a thumbs up. It’s just so exciting to even be a part of it, you know what I mean?

Q: You are also working with Meek Mill. How did that come about?

Shontelle: Yeah, it was crazy how that all started out.  You know I was working with actually a brand new artist and it really all comes down to, like it’s crazy how thing can happen, you can be in a studio one second, one person walks in falls in love with something and is like I got to be a part of that.  So that’s how that whole thing happened, which lead to the connection between me and Khaled and so you know Khaled and I have some like little secret plans in the works you know what I mean .

Q:  And what do you admire about DJ Khaled?

Shontelle:  He’s the coolest guy.  Honestly, like a lot of people think he’s really pompous and or they think he shows off a lot, but when he’s in the studio, he’s just like so cool.  He’ll take pictures with anybody, he’s not diva or anything.  He’s a cool dude!

Q: You are also working on Kelly Clarkson’s new album?

Shontelle:  Yeah, not only for her album, but also for her Christmas album, so wish me luck! I mean I just don’t want an album cut, I want a single you know what I mean?

Kelly, I haven’t been in the studio with her yet, but they called me in so we’re working on it.

Q: What’s the secret to writing a great power ballad?

Shontelle: I don’t really know I mean honestly I am really Emo so I just like spill it out, I’m that person. I sort of kind of wear my heart on my sleeve anyway so I mean it’s easy for me and I tend to try to tap into people and try to understand them and where they’re at, so then it just sort of takes me in a certain direction.
