Memphis upstarts, June and his producer, Teddy Walton, may not be household names right now, but they have all that it takes to make themselves known. June’s debut project, Evol, impressed us with its laid back trill feel, filled with interesting production and lyrical content. Songs like “City Love”, “We On”, and “Bring It Back” demonstrated his ability to incorporate not only his traditional hometown aesthetic into his style, but how he can distill a variety of hip hop sub-genres through his music, while staying original and fresh. This ability shows his potential for growth, keeping us interested in seeing which direction he goes next.
Today, we are honored to premiere his brand new video for his latest single, “Big Pimpin”. Featuring a guest verse from fellow Southern, Big K.R.I.T., the song is a modern reworking of Jay Z‘‘s classic balling anthem with the same name. Unfortunately, the two emcees couldn’t make it to Trinidad & Tobago, but they still manage to hop on a boat filled with beautiful women. The entire video has a lavish over-the-top Miami Vice vibe to it, which complements Teddy Walton’s production and the topic of the song perfectly. Both rappers look like they own the world; even when June heads back to land, he is riding on the hoods of cruising tricked-out low-riders. Champagne, bikini clad girls, and an unexpected Gunplay cameo, what more can you want or expect from a video.
Check it out below and then head over to here to download his previous mixtape, Evol, you won’t be disappointed.
