Boy its something I can’t explain…
Sisters With Voices, widely known as all girl group SWV, were a very impacting musical force during the 90′s era. The Grammy nominated trio from New York, was formed by three school friends: Cheryl Gamble aka CoCo (distinctively known for her 8′ nails) , Tamara Johnson, and Leanne Lyons.
Shortly after their 1992 debut with It’s About Time, SWV scored a string of Top Ten Hits establishing them as one of the most successful urban 90′s R&B groups. Notable for their ‘new jack swing’, It’s About Time was certified to become triple platinum.
With hits such as, “Right Here” and I’m So into You” it was their third single off of the album, all time favorite ballad titled “Weak”, that became one of their biggest hits, reaching number one on both the R&B and Hot 100 charts.
Even if you weren’t in love,”Weak” gives the nostalgic feeling of being in love. Weak is a relatable harmonized girls tale, that expresses the emotional roller coaster that many of us experience when truly feelin’ someone. It’s one of those songs that puts you in the state of mind when your just kicking it with your homegirls thinking of that one guy that just blows your mind unknowingly, making you sensitive in every way. Your friends purposely tease you about your “boo” just to make you blush. Emotions is the navigation sending you up one minute and down the next, but as soon as you see his face you light up as if you never felt any of those feelings at all; in that very moment it becomes strictly about you and him, again. That’s exactly the picture painted (lyrically) by ”Weak”…
cause my heart starts beating triple times,
with thoughts of loving you on my mind.
I can’t figure out just what to do,
when the cause and cure is you…
It’s one of those tracks that makes you analyze on the fact that you helplessly can’t explain the feeling that he gives you but you are sure that it is an indescribably delicious one!
SWV has forever marked the musical culture with rich songs that tends to make one feel as though their not alone when it comes to being “boy crazy” (to a minimum of course!).
Until this day “Weak” remains a classic hit, back in 04′ singer/songwriter Jo Jo even did a remake of the ballad; but no one will ever deliver it with the intensity and soulfulness the way that SWV did.
