Floyd Mayweather is allowing you the fans to choose his next opponent and no Manny Pacquiao is not an option. Mayweather posted this to his Instagram account.
Fans have the opportunity to choose between Amir Khan and Marcos Maidana.
Maidana you may remember most vividly as he recently defeated Mayweather’s protege, Adrien Broner. Broner has been hoping for a rematch against the 35-3 boxer but fans may push for a Mayweather/Maidana bout as they oppose the alternative. Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer was targeting April 19 or 26 fight with Broner — which also would set up Maidana as a possible Mayweather opponent in the fall.
But Sebastian Cortusi, Maidana’s manager, told BoxingScene.com a rematch may have to pushed back, for training and personal reasons.
Maidana’s girlfriend is pregnant an due March 15. Cortusi says he won’t have enough time to “rest and train properly for a major fight in April.” Cortusi says Maidana needs 10 weeks to train for a major fight.
Most boxing fans (myself included) don’t think Khan stands a chance against Mayweather hence why Maidana would be the better fight. But there is the fact that Maidana lost a unanimous decision to Khan in December 2011.
Either way the odds favor Mayweather. At this point we’re just hoping for a decent, not boring fight.
