Just a couple weeks after adding another win to his record, Floyd Mayweather has set the date for his next fight.
“Floyd will go on Sept. 13 and we looking at who he’s going to fight and where he is going to fight,”Mayweather Promotions chief executive Leonard Ellerbe told ESPN. “Obviously, Las Vegas is his home and the MGM Grand is always the leading candidate but we will take a look at our other options.”
One location that was mentioned for his last fight was the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY and it will probably be considered yet again.
The Showtime pay-per-view fight will be the fourth of a six-bout deal worth around $200 million that Mayweather (46-0, 26 KOs) signed with Showtime/CBS in early 2013.
So who will his next opponent be? Ellerbe says they’ll have that part figured out in the next two weeks.
There’s a possibility of a rematch between Mayweather and Marcos Maidana. Following their May 3rd bout, the two agreed to a possible rematch although Mayweather and his camp pointed out that Maidana is a dirty fighter. Another possibility was Amir Khan who initially won the contest to be Mayweather’s opponent in the May fight but Mayweather chose to fight Maidana instead. Khan has now proven himself after dominantly defeating Luis Collazo in the undercard fight. Khan however has essentially removed himself from consideration because of religious reasons and Mayweather has no intentions on changing the date to accommodate him. Another name to consider is Danny Garcia who’s moved up the ranks and shown himself to be quite the competitive fighter.
I’m definitely anxious for the announcement.
