Breaux is over them tacos
Amid rappers getting arrested for murder, the Oscars, and the hundred other stories that the general public obsesses over on a daily basis, Frank Ocean‘s bitter dispute with popular mexican food chain Chipotle flew under the radar. Apparently, Ocean was hired by the quickly growing company to sing a jingle in one of their advertisement spots, and after disagreeing with some of the logistics of the ad spot–Ocean’s camp says, officially, that Ocean messed up his voice–Ocean pulled out at the last minute, putting Chipotle in a cumbersome position, for which they are suing Frank. According to TMZ:
Chipotle claims Frank never recorded the track because when they showed him the final cut … Frank was pissed the company’s logo appeared at the end of the spot.
To reiterate … he was mad Chipotle’s logo was in a Chipotle advertisement.
The restaurant says it got an email from Frank’s people claiming Frank thought he was promised final say over the recording and all promotional materials — and believed the company was in breach when it refused to remove its logo.
Chipotle is suing to get back the $212,500 advance it paid Ocean.
A couple days on his Tumblr, Ocean indirectly accused Chipotle of slander by sharing the link to the Wikipedia definition of defamation in his “response” to the Chipotle controversy.
Today, Ocean finally brought the dispute to its culmination, writing a check for $212,500, and sharing a not-so-implicit, explicit directive with Chipotle.
