These past few weeks have been unusually anti-climactic. With the biggest day hip-hop has had in possibly 6 years–June 18th–coming up in just over two weeks, in total, we have access to two singles, and two music videos from the three big albums coming out on that day. We actually have no proof that Kanye’s album isn’t a 12 track breakdown of him screaming in different octaves, other than his Saturday Night Live performances, which were rather scintillating actually. We have no official tracklist from any of the artists, and, unfortunately, no revised artwork for The Gifted. Maybe we’re paying too much attention to that day. Good things come to those who wait, right? So we’ll wait. In the meantime, Chicago is back on the forefront, this time for a more positive reason. While GBE continues to spread their Glory Boyz ideologies across the nation–Chief Keef headlined in NYC last night–Chance The Rapper’s Acid Rap is gaining more and more traction every day, and his good friend Vic Mensa, former leader of Kids These Days, may have had the week’s best video release with his “Orange Juice” single. His solo project is coming soon, and the sky seems like the limit for the kid. Meanwhile, Pro Era is still doing what they do best, which is just about everything. R.I.P. Capital STEEZ. We can’t say it enough. Hopefully next week, when we’re 9 days away from June 18th, we’ll have better news for you guys. Meanwhile, keep looking for the art in Yeezus’ artwork. And tell Ms. Starkeema it was what she did the night before the Diamonds World Tour show that gave her herpes, not the lipstick.
Just joking.
