There’s more to the star who plays Jessa on Girls.
Girls star Jemima Kirke may play wayward Jessa on the show but the real life Kirke is actually an established artist. The Brooklyn-based painter focuses her work on portraits of women in her latest collection titled “Platforms.” Subjects include friends, sister, daughter and herself.
The paintings present a realistic image of the subjects, with slightly geometric distortions and a shadowy color aesthetic.
Kirke majored in art as a student and received her bachelor of fine arts in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design.
Platforms is currently showing at Fouladi Projects in San Francisco.
Kirke has received some growing attention for her artwork through her television role, but the artist says she isn’t carried away with it. She said in an interview with T-Magazine, “If someone was willing to show my work now, I don’t really care why. I’m honored to have the platform.”
