Stop the presses! The shoe from the 90s with the car key, key chain dangling on the side is coming out!

What?

That’s right: Adidas Originals is retro’ing Keyshawn Johnson’s Key Trainer sneaker.

Originally released in 1996, former NFL wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson’s signature training and turf shoe was a hit back in the 90s and makes a return in stores Saturday April 5.

Johnson was a larger than life figure during his eleven year NFL playing career. He suited up for the New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys and Carolina Panthers. He’s fondly remembered as a Jet with his huge confidence displayed his rookie year. Heck, he wrote his autobiography, Just Give Me The Damn Ball, with then-Sports Illustrated writer Shelley Smith.

Swag to the fullest!

Originally introduced for use on field, the Key Trainer is exclusive for wear on the streets now. Adidas used Johnson’s confidence as a muse for the design of the shoe. “Just give me the damn shoes,”  joked Adidas Senior PR Manager of Sport Style Måns Ericson.

Johnson, the number one overall pick in the 1996 NFL Draft by the New York Jets was the first wide out selected that high since 1984. He came into the NFL with much fanfare after scoring a touchdown and catching 12 passes for USC in the 1996 Rose Bowl for 216 yards. The Trojans won that game 41-32 and beat Northwestern. Johnson was the MVP of that game.

The $130 Key Trainer will be released in its original hunter green and white colorway and is part of the adidas EQT and Feet You Wear lines. It features contoured outsole to support the natural shape of the foot.
