Gentlemen, put down your glasses. You do not want another round.
Men who drink heavily – at least two pints of beer a day or more – are likely to experience age related memory loss at a significantly earlier age than their peers who drink less.
A study of 5,000 men and 2,000 women said that men who imbibed frequently and with great volume began to show memory decline up to six years earlier than average.
The report released by the University College London said that although those studied did not suffer from dementia, memory decline is often a precursor to the disorder. Although men appear to be affected significantly by their drinking habits, women do not show the same decline in cognition.
