It’s about to be a Tinashe takeover.
The LA-based songstress stopped by the Atlanta University Center’s student radio station WSTU today (March 27) as a part of her nationwide promo tour.
Tinashe has been traveling the country promoting her new hit single “2 On” featuring Schoolboy Q. She released the video for the track earlier this week.
“That was my first major video shoot,” Tinashe said with a smile of pride. “It was the first time I didn’t edit the video myself, it was great. We had a lot of fun.”
In reference to the birthday cake scene Tinashe said, “I wanted it to be a little personal.” She recently turned 21.
Tinashe says she plans to get personal with fans through her forthcoming album. She wants the world to know who she is and that she can hold her own.
The former member of The Stunners says her experience thus far as a solo artist is “definitely different.”
“I prefer the independent creative process but I do kind of miss that support, like onstage and interview support,” she explained.
Tinashe’s solo debut is slated for release in July.
She says she’s been working on the album since last year with assistance from DJ Mustard, Mike Will Made It, Boi-1da, Future and A$AP Rocky to name a few.
Although Tinashe has become known for her sensual melodies, she says she switching it up on her album.
“The album definitely has some upbeat, party moments,” Tinashe said. “I don’t want all of my music to sound the same but I do want people to get to know me as a person and as an artist.”
Tinashe says one of her favorite songs from the album is a track called “Pretend” featuring A$AP Rocky.
Keep your ears open for that track but in the meantime, check out Tinashe’s hit “2 On” available on iTunes now!
