Happy 20th Anniversary To Sister Sister
Today we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the sitcom, Sister Sister. The show starred identical twins, Tia and Tamera Mowry, Jackee Harry, who used to star on the hit show, 227, singer ,Marques Houston and Tim Reid, who starred in the hit show, WKRP in Cincinnati.
The show takes place in Detroit, Michigan as it premieres on this day. The show was executive produced by music veteran, Suzanne DePasse. The show was about two girls who discovered that they are sisters and they live together with their adoptive parents Ray Campbell and Lisa Landry.
Tia was the smart and ambitious twin while Tamera was the free spirited. Roger was their annoying neighbor (in which they had their own catchphrase for, ‘go home Roger’). Ray was Tamera’s father who likes to do things by the rules and owned his limousine service but later became ancouncilman. Lisa was Tia’s mother who was a fashion designer and was known to break the rules. They both ended with steady boyfriends on the show and they were an example of what it means to be a young and independent females. I admired this show from when it first started until it ended.
The show also had some serious moments when it comes to relationships, going to college, having a first break-up, fake online profiles, knowing about the harsh ships of the inner city and bullying. The show was cancelled on May 23, 1999. The show featured cameos from actress, Gabrielle Union, singers, Brian McKnight & Christina Milian, Kid from Kid & Play and many others. This was one show that spoke to the young generation of the 90′s as they spoke to young girls. Since the show, both Tia and Tamera Mowry got married, had kids and became successful in their own right. Jackee Harry continued to do movies & theater, and Tim Reid started a foundation with his wife fellow actress, Daphne Maxwell-Reid.
