That’s a lot of cash for stuff no one is seeing you in!

Perhaps more ladies should take a peek inside their wardrobe before heading to the mall for a new outfit. A new study conducted by VoucherCloud, an online coupon distributor, shows that the average woman has $500 worth of unworn clothing in her closet.

The company surveyed 2,137 women ages 18 and older and found that the majority of the participants have never worn at least 20 percent of items in their wardrobes. The most common items not to have seem the light of day include shoes and coats.

Participants were also asked why these items were never worn. 75 percent of the women said they preferred other items in their closet and 51 percent said that they feared negative reactions from friends and relatives if they wore their new items out. Apparently, the opinions of retailers matter to the women a lot too, as 39 percent of them cited they “couldn’t be bothered” to take back the items they’re not wearing.

Maybe it’s time for these women to drop some of these items off at their local consignment store.
