The Boot Camp Clik hit the mid-90s like a Mike Tyson punch. Consisting of Buckshot, Smif-N-Wessun, Heltah Skeltah, and O.G.C., Boot Camp Clik had their own sound, look, and label Duck Down Records. The label originally started out as a management company where Dru Ha managed Black Moon and Smif-N-Wessun. It eventually evolved into one of the leading independent hip-hop record labels of the last 15 years.
Today’s hidden gem is borrowed from an episode of Video Music Box where “Uncle Ralph” McDaniels interviews O.G.C., Smif-N-Wessun, and Heltah Skeltah. The video touches on the origins of the Boot Camp sound, the forming of Fab Five and features freestyle from Heltah Skeltah.
