This edition of HH101 examines the importance of our skin
By Nakeasha Johnson
Every person wants to have their skin feel and look amazing despite their age, sex, or ethnicity. We constantly see commercials that offer these over priced products to the public that are full of chemicals. We also see the commercials featuring “natural” products, whose prices are ungodly to say the least. The truth is that they will never run a commercial that says all that you need to lighten scars, remove wrinkles, remove dandruff, and get rid of acne, is right in your cabinet. I may not run television ads, but I will tell you about it. Turmeric my beloveds, is your best friend!! There are so many beneficial uses for turmeric. Here are a few tips that will leave you with great looking skin:
*To exfoliate your skin: Make a paste of turmeric and honey. Put the paste on your face for about 10 minutes and then rinse
*For acne: Make a paste of turmeric and lemon with a couple of drops of water Put the paste on your face and leave for about 20 minutes and then rinse
*To help with cracked hands or feet: Make a past of turmeric and castor oil (I love Jamaican black castor oil) or coconut oil. Put the paste on your hands or feet for 20 minutes and rinse
*For scars (including stretch marks): Make a paste of turmeric with equal parts of chickpea flour and water. Let it sit until it dries and then rinse
*Whitten your teeth: Make a paste of turmeric and water, and then brush your teeth. Once you are done, follow up by brushing again using your regular toothpaste
*For dandruff: Make more of a liquid paste using turmeric and coconut, jojoba, or castor oil. Place the mixture on your scalp and let it sit for 20-30 minutes. Then, shampoo as usual.
These tips will help you in your quest to have great skin, but keep in mind that to have healthy skin you also need to drink plenty of water and sufficient rest at night. When using turmeric, I do advise you to be careful as it does stain things yellow. So if you are applying it to your face or body wash your hands after each application because your nails will get stained. Wear old or worn clothing that you do not mind getting dirty or stained. If you want to be extra cautious, I recommend using gloves also. If you would like to let me know how these tips worked for you, take a picture and put in on Twitter or Instagram tag me @NakeashaJ or @melanatedbeauty and add the hashtag #HH101STAYFRESH
I will be on the lookout, giving shout-outs to everyone who is showing off their hood health savviness.
