Washington Heights, a popular neighborhood in Manhattan, NY, was the setting for a huge heroin seizure. Late Wednesday evening officials contend that six people were arrested in conjunction with the collection of $1 million worth of heroin, drug paraphernalia, and guns.
Due to the incident the Cross Bronx Expressway and George Washington Bridge were closed down for approximately 30 minutes from 10:30 P.M. The alphabet boys, both the DEA and the NYPD scoured the roads for items chunked from an apartment balcony. During the raid the items were strewn across the expressway.
Thousands of glassine envelopes possessed four kilos of Mexican and Colombian heroin, boasting a street value of over a million dollars. DEA agents secured the narcotics during the search of 260 Audubon Avenue, Apartment 18C. Baggies were branded with familiar names like “Starbucks,” “Target,” and “High End.”
Law enforcement officials asserts alleged pharmaceutical entrepreneurs, Miguel Diaz-Alvarez, Florencio Bonilla, and Pedro Capellan attempted to escape through a bedroom window. The coppers claim, Capellan was “found” dangling from the 18th floor balcony. A 38-caliber revolver, a 9-milimeter hand gun, and a plethora of envelopes containing heroin were tossed away as the trio attempted to escape.
The Audobon Avenue apartment is the epicenter of the emerging heroin mill. The group has been under DEA surveillance for over a month. The investigation purports to have video surveillance of the different people entering and leaving the residence in 10 hour shifts. They DEA contends they were, “grinding heroin, mixing it with dilutant and packaging it.”
The six men arrested were charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, conspiracy to possess and sell a controlled substance, criminally using drug paraphernalia, and four of the men were charged with resisting arrest.
