Yesterday, Rolling Stone published an excerpt of their highly anticipated Drake cover story, which, naturally, received a lot of attention from the blogosphere. However, it wasn’t for his typical shout outs or for dropping some secrets; instead, it was for his fiery comments he directed towards Grammy darling and our Man of the Year, Macklemore. He called the Seattle native’s apologetic text message to Kendrick Lamar as “wack as f**k” and thought the act lost a sense of sentimentality or genuineness, once published online for the public to see. He was also slighted that his name or the other runner ups in the category weren’t mentioned, stating that he not only stole Kendricks award, but everyone else’s as well.
Later on that night, the full scans of the interview were leaked online and Drake’s candid comments began to circulate around the web. His worst comment was already revealed and directed to a likely suspect in Macklemore, but when it was revealed that he went after lord Yeezus, Kanye West himself, things started to get testy. Drake stated that he was too fond of Mr. West’s latest effort and joked about one of the notable lines: ”There were some real questionable bars on there,” Drake says of Kanye‘sYeezus album. “Like that ‘Swaghili’ line? Come on, man. Fabolous wouldn’t say some shit like that.” Although, he was quick to backtrack and demonstrate his deep fondness for the Chicago legend, “Kanye and me are friends; we’re plotting on getting some work done together. Kanye’s the reason I’m here. I love everything about that guy.”
He didn’t stop there though, he took some more time out to air his feelings towards the invalidity of the Grammy Awards:
“It becomes more apparent how irrelevant our genre is to them. They were trying to utilize me to sell the show, requesting me to come and perform “Hold On, We’re Going Home” but they didn’t’ nominate it for anything! They’re calling me, e-mailing me every day to do some elaborate performance and bring them viewers, but I didn’t get a nomination for Album Of The Year. I didn’t get a nomination for Song Of The Year.”
And just when you thought he was finished, he decided to air out his thoughts on the recent art and hip hop worlds intermixing trend. “It’s like Hov can’t drop bars these days without at least four art references!” He continues, “I would love to collect at some point, but I think the whole rap/art world thing is corny.”
Clearly, Drake said more than a mouth full. It seems like he came after all the top figures in the hip hop game with one swift swoop and many fans are applauding him for it. Yet, he doesn’t appreciate all of this information getting out and stated his disgust with the entire article. Taking to his twitter, Drake publicly lampooned Rolling Stone for publishing it and stated that his press days may be coming to an end.
I never commented on Yeezus for my interview portion of Rolling Stone. They also took my cover from me last minute and ran the issue.

I’m disgusted with that. RIP to Phillip Seymour Hoffman. All respect due. But the press is evil.

I’m done doing interviews for magazines. I just want to give my music to the people. That’s the only way my message gets across accurately.

Either Drake is mad at the state of the industry, Rolling Stone’s supposed inept reporting, or both. Whatever it is, nothing will be the same once this issue hits the stands.
