Roc Nation MC J.Cole debuted his sophomore album “Born Sinner” for press and fans at a New York City listening session Thursday night, which simultaneously streamed in several other cities including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Toronto, Houston, Los Angeles and is hometown of Fayetteville.
Attendees downloaded the LISNR app and were provided Dr. Dre’s Beat’s By Dre headphones to listen to the 16-track album. Prior to the start of the session, Cole explained the premise behind one of the album’s most vulnerable songs “Let Nas Down” After getting signed, trying (and failing) twice to find radio-friendly hits with “Blow Up” and “Who Dat” he made “Work Out Plan” Once his idol Nas heard the song, Mr. Jones was very vocal about his disappointment with the up-tempo song.
“Why the f*ck that n***a make that sh*t?” Cole said reiterating Nas. “Don’t he know he the one?”
Coley Cole played the humble and said he immediately grew defensive, but later realized the Queens MC was right. Cole kept it short and sweet and allowed everyone at the SVA Theater in downtown Manhattan to zone out with the lights out and listen to Born Sinner. While the album showcases extreme growth GIANTLife.com decodes the LP track-by-track
The album drops June 18th.

Villuminati
As the track opens with a gospel chorus and the soothing light sounds of a harp, Cole warns listeners “Its way darker this time.” which is the theme carried throughout the LP. Villuminati, the first track from Born Sinner loops Big’s “born sinner the opposite of a winner” and acts as the song’s hook. Listeners find Cole spitting faster than normal, showcasing not only breath control but aggression. Lyrically, Cole tells the story about the time he tried to give his CD to Jay-Z and the curve Hov handed him.
‘Pac had a n***a saying f**k Jigga/ F**k Biggie. I was only like the leather so forgive me/A decade later I’d be all up in the city/ trying to get Hov to fuck with me./With a burn CD full of jams that was up in my hand/when he said he didn’t want it was f**k him again
